Judy Wong Make Up Artist

Dublin Make Up Artist

I feel like its been over 15 years ago that we met. Was it a shoot? Well whatever it was, I do remember distinctly connecting with you because you are such a genuine creative person. We had such a laugh as we always do when working together and what I appreciate most is that throughout the years we are still those same young gals we were but wiser, sassier, and really authentic gals. I think we’ve been friends through the industry because we fully respect each other and we understand a united vision that has allowed us to work so well together.

What inspires me is a story and the visuals behind a story. I am always intrigued by nature and the sea and the changing palette of the seasons.   Give me a national geographic magazine over vogue and my eyes will be so mesmerized by eye of the photographer and what they saw. Colour is everything… every shade and every tone is fantastic.
The industry accepted me firstly as an artist. Never trained as a makeup artist so it showed in my approach to makeup and why I leaned towards quirky fashion shows and also amazing bright products. I was lucky that my contemporaries were the likes of Tara Eustace, Paula Callen, Sara Golding, Derrick Carberry, Tom McInerny, Natalie Kinsella, Nicole Lynch, Hazel Skinner, Lisa o Connor, Amanda Mc Carthy, Vicky Grant, Debs Aungier, Susan Ryan, Fiona Mc Hugh, Pauline Fletcher, Aoife, Lisa & Tammy Murtagh. The old school Mac crew from 2000 gave me so much education with my upskilling in makeup they all blew my mind. We were a family and a united front. They helped me become the artist in the industry I am today & I’m always so grateful to them.
The best parts of my job is feeling connected to people in the industry. I love being with people who understand to ‘Support one another’ through a creative process. It’s always an privilege to feel like I am apart of the magic.
I love making artwork too. I don’t show it off enough but I will have to go and pop it out there soon. I practice Reiki also, only on personal close connections. I need to do more with it as I am a bit shy with it but it’s a natural healing connection I have and a lot of friends and family get a lot from it when I work with them. I love wedding makeup work which is a really intimate experience for all there. Best to always enjoy it and be one with the family you are with… I never charge doing the mother’s makeup. For me to praise women is hugely important as they have to push us out and carry us for several months. Every mom out there needs love and this is my way to respect my mom and all moms out there and give them a special feeling.
You will find me on Instagram as @MakeupbyJudibells. Lots of fun work up there and although I haven’t a huge following I am happy to keep it like this. I want to be able to connect without the numbers being attached to it.

We all need someone to ask and not feel afraid of judgement.
If I don’t know the answers I tend to also ask other peers. Asking is learning.
