I had met Lorraine several times working on weddings but really got to know her when we worked together on an inspirational photo shoot at GlosterHouse, one of the most beautiful private wedding venues in Ireland. What I love about working with Lorraine is her calmness, her professionalism and her work ethic which is similar to mine, with the willingness to walk that extra mile to achieve the best for her clients.

Whatever others say, working on a wedding is a team effort, everything needs to run smoothly and on time. With Lorraine, I know that her calmness and efficiency will never delay the couples (and my) timeline. Lorraine’s exquisite styling brings out the bride’s natural beauty which makes my job, capturing this, much easier!

What Inspires you?

My inspiration is “the history of photography” and the social interaction with my couples and clients.

The art of photography started about 200 years ago with very simple handmade photo paper which has evolved to a digital image you have on your phone today.

I find my inspiration from looking at these old, very artistic, handcrafted photos that prove that quality images can stand the test of time. In the late 50’s there weren’t many photographers that used the photographic medium to tell a social story, for example the story of a country or culture, the story of how people lived and worked. They were pioneers. For me, these photographers are the absolute base for everything I believe photography should be.

It is not only about a pretty picture, my photos need to tell something about the people, about their wedding or event.

Therefore it is absolutely necessary for me to get to know my couples better before their wedding day. I want to know their ideas, what they expect.

With all this in mind, that is how I create a story from the images,  beautiful photos for them to look back on and relive such an important day of their life.

How did you break into the industry?

I studied photography in Antwerp but had a camera in my hand much earlier and I can’t remember a time where I wasn’t taking photos or working on some painting projects.

In my teens I won a prestigious photography prize from the now-defunct film company Agfa Gevaert in Belgium. It was a photo of two models with contrasting appearances….It fuelled my passion for photography!

Later on I started work in a photography studio and started doing Wedding reportages in my own style and presented in my own hand made boxes.

I only worked in Black and White and printed and developed everything myself. I still believe in these core values. Sometimes I miss the smell of a dark room!

I still think that photos should be printed and handcrafted. Therefore I use film photography in combination with digital images.

Travel eventually took me to Ireland where I married my wife and I’m now settled here with three wonderful children.

Ireland was the ideal location to continue my profession. Beautiful ventures and stunning scenery. Back in the early days, I attended a lot of wedding fairs to get my name out there and connect with other vendors. Things grew from there thankfully.

What I love about my job is that “it is not a job”. Connecting with my couples and creating their stories is a privilege that I enjoy immensely

For the Future:

I am working on new projects in Ireland and Europe especially in France and Italy.

In the future I would love to travel more, a few wedding adventures to the South of Europe and of course to meet up and work for amazing people in Ireland.
